Reese’s Old Fashioned

Day 4 of 31 Halloween cocktails that won’t rot your teeth (but might rot your brain)

Okay, so this one might actually rot your teeth. With Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup-infused bourbon and salted caramel in the mix, this might be the most candy-forward cocktail on my list. Again, I found this recipe on Educated Barfly, but I changed the infusion method since I don’t have a sous vide.

Overall I was surprised by this cocktail; it wasn't too sweet and the peanut butter notes came through to play with the saltiness of the caramel really well. I could see sipping on one while handing out candy on Halloween (so I’m less tempted to eat it all), but I wouldn't reach for this old fashioned regularly. I like my tooth enamel too much.

Reese’s Old Fashioned

2 oz Peanut Butter Cup bourbon
2 bar spoons salted caramel syrup
1 bar spoon simple syrup

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice. Stir to chill, then strain into a chilled rocks glass over a BFC. Garnish with a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.

Peanut Butter Cup bourbon
32 g Reese's Peanut Butter Cup
3 1/4 oz bourbon

Place bourbon and broken-up PBC into a sealable container like the ones from Crew Supply (I love how easy they are to clean after a thick, goopy infusion like this one. Let it sit refrigerated for 24-hours, shaking occasionally. Strain the hazy liquid through a coffee filter into a container to either store in the fridge or use immediately.

Salted Caramel Syrup
I cheated and bought some salted caramel sauce from Trader Joe’s instead of making it from scratch. It was too thick to stir into the cocktail over ice, so I had to water it down a touch first so it would dissolve when mixed.
