Day 9 of 31 Halloween cocktails that won’t rot your teeth (but might rot your brain)

A classic cocktail that incorporates scotch, the blood and sand first appeared in the 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book and is named after Rudolph Valentino's 1922 bullfighter movie, Blood and Sand.

Blood and Sand

3/4 oz. Scotch whisky
3/4 oz. rosso vermouth
3/4 oz. cherry brandy
3/4 oz. orange juice (use fresh-squeezed blood oranges for a redder color)

Shake all ingredients together with ice. Double strain into a chilled martini or coupe glass. Garnish with an orange twist.
